Veritas is a free service created by Leander Hughes and powered by Google Custom Search which helps teachers and journal editors check manuscripts for plagiarism. Users specify the minimum length in words for a section of text to be considered as copied from another source and then click "check text". If no results are found, Veritas concludes that the text is probably original. If results are found, it means that a section of text of at least the length specified has been found on internet via Google custom search. Once the check is complete any results found will be displayed below the search box and the corresponding sections of text in the manuscript will appear as links that take the user to the Google search results for those sections.
